Gastric Ulcer Awareness Month

Does your horse show any of the following:

  • Poor appetie or slow to eat hard feed.
  • Weight loss
  • Poor coat
  • Problems under saddle/ poor performance
  • Resents having girth tightened
  • Crib biting
  • Wind sucking
  • Grinding teeth
  • Recurrent colic

All of the above can be evidence of gastric ulcer syndrome but the symptoms are very variable. Unfortunately there are no accurate laboratory test for diagnosing or monitoring this, so the only way is by gastroscopy.

This is were you pass an endoscope into the stomach via the nose to asses the extent, location and severity of any lesions.  As a mobile independent practise we are happy to carry out these examintion on your premises avoiding causing stress to your horse and the inconveniences of transporting to a clinic.

We have over 25 years experience of treating and managing gastric ulcers from top class racehorses, elite eventers to horses and ponies used for general riding. To highlight this the severity of what ulcers can do to your horse, through the month of AUGUST we are offering a 40% discount on the cost of gastroscopy.

Please call the office on 01452 877 595 to book an appointment or to get more information on what we are offering.
